Sustainable Transport Professional

Country Location: Auckland

Are you passionate about the role sustainable transport plays in our future?

Are you fascinated by cities, or consider yourself an urbanist?

Does a career in sustainable transport excite you?

This is a unique role where we don’t mind what you studied – we want to know why you are interested in sustainable transport and how you demonstrate that.

MRCagney is one of the leading sustainable transport consultancies in Aotearoa. Our team all share the same sense of purpose, which is captured by our company ethos: ‘better transport, places and choices’. This ethos is about making a positive, sustained contribution to the people and communities that we work with.

We apply this passion and our people-first approach to the places, towns, and cities in which we work. Urban design and sustainable transport are about people, not just numbers, and we provide pragmatic, real-world advice to make a positive difference. Our services range from strategy and policy consulting to data analytics, technical transport and urban design.

With offices in Auckland and Hamilton, we can see the changes happening in Aotearoa, and MRCagney is a part of that work. MRCagney is an incredible place to work as we can put our ideas into practice and our skills to use. This is shown through some of our projects, which include:

  • ‘Access for Everyone’ - a first of its kind strategy that reshapes transport circulation, street design, and street operations in Auckland’s city centre.
  • City Rail Link – the largest rapid transit project New Zealand has ever had.
  • Sustainable Transport Strategy and plans for Kāinga Ora to integrate land use and transport.
  • Auckland Light Rail – the project to create a new rapid transit line between the City Centre and Mangere.
  • Let’s Get Wellington Moving – Golden Mile Project – the creation of a transit mall that speeds up buses while freeing up space for people.
  • Auckland’s New Network - Redesign of Auckland’s bus, rail and ferry system, with the goal of developing a single integrated network for efficient, effective and attractive service across the whole city.

The role

With our New Zealand business recently becoming owned and operated by members of our senior team, we are excited about the next stage of our growth.

This sustainable transport professional role will work on a range of projects and across many of our service areas, but essentially it will be tailored to your strengths and interests. For example, you may thrive in project coordination or management, or it could be that you are a communications superstar. There are opportunities to focus on research and analysis, graphics and visual communications or more – we are growing and want you!

About you

With 2 - 4 years’ experience behind you, you are now ready to make a transition to a career that you are passionate about. Whether you studied planning, design, science, or arts – it doesn’t matter to us. What does matter is that you share our ethos and believe that sustainable transport is a powerful way to address complex issues. Essentially, it’s your enthusiasm, communication and passion for sustainable transport that will see you grow into and succeed in this role.

We are a voice for equitable transport, and we believe in building a team as diverse as the communities we work in. Therefore, at MRCagney, all backgrounds, identities and voices are welcomed and embraced.

Most importantly

The bottom line is that we want to know why and how you are interested in urbanism, sustainable transport and improving our cities for the future. Tell us in your cover letter why this role is designed for you. Tell us how you keep informed, how you show your commitment and why your friends think you are just a little bit obsessed with sustainable transport!

Why this role

You will be a valued part of a highly passionate yet practical team and collaborate and learn from people with diverse skills and experiences. You will get to be involved in a wide range of projects regarded as best international practice and work closely with clients, stakeholders and community groups.

We are outcomes-focused, value work/life balance and flexibility is our norm. Our values are shared and lived from the top, actively guiding the company’s decisions. We have a real desire to make a real difference to Aotearoa and are forward-thinking with our approach.

Our team care about people, support each other, and we want you to do your best work.
